The cost of a floorcovering generally represents a tenth
of its total life cycle cost (cleaning and maintenance costs over its
lifetime).
Tarkett is one of the world’s leading and most experienced
floorcovering manufacturers. For more than 110 years, we have produced new
flooring materials based on market realities. We have looked, listened, tested
and developed. This has given us great experience and expertise in most types of
flooring materials, installation methods and cleaning systems.
It makes sense to protect your
investment
Floor cleaning and maintenance costs are one of the
biggest expenses in many budgets today. In addition to traffic and soiling, the
cost of maintaining a floor also depends on three factors: the floorcovering’s
characteristics, the cleaning methods and the cleaning materials used. They go
hand in hand. We cannot change cleaning methods or materials without first
improving the floorcovering’s characteristics. We therefore need to think in a
bigger perspective, seeing product and cleaning development as different aspects
of the same thing. This is what we do at Tarkett.
The best proven cleaning
characteristics
For any floorcovering, the purchase cost is only a
tenth of the total life cycle cost. Cleaning and maintenance normally account
for about 90%. Tarkett commercial PVC resilient flooring with PUR reinforcement
has the best proven cleaning properties: no wax or polish for at least 20 years.
This greatly reduces both life cycle costs and environmental impact, so the
higher investment pays for itself in the long run.
Why properly maintain
floorings?
- In order to keep your flooring installation looking good
for long-term use.
- In order to protect your investment.
- In order to encourage a hygienic workplace.
1. Typical commercial environment soiling pattern
For each cleaning area Tarkett recommend individually
designed cleaning schedules describing methods and frequencies. Cleaning and
maintenance instructions for each product are also available. Please contact our
cleaning consultant or your Tarkett representative for information.
2. An example of the cleaning frequency required
- Choose both aesthetics and economy.
Aesthetics: Enjoy the beauty of your flooring for as long
as possible.
- Economy: Make the most of your flooring investment for as
long as possible, so calculate your cost of maintenance into your budget right
from the start.

PREVENTIVE CARE FOR A CLEANER
ENVIRONMENT
About 80% of all the dirt on the floor that has to
be cleaned off is brought in from outside. And 90% of that can be avoided by
effective and correctly dimensioned entrance matting.
The less dirt that comes in through the entrance, the
lower the maintenance requirements.
An efficient dirt barrier system should be based on the
three-stage principle. There should be a scraper grid nearest the outside, then
a “grass” mat and finally a fibre mat to trap and absorb the remaining dirt. The
total length of the three mats should ideally be approximately 7-8 metres where
possible for heavy traffic entrances.

Protect!
Another important
detail is that all chair and table legs should have good quality protective
feet. Felt feet are not recommended in commercial interiors. Some form of hard
plastic is preferred.
