Conductive laying

Static electricity can be overcome by installing an earthed conductive system (copper grid or conductive primer) below the covering to carry away any charge.

  • Preparation of the substrate
  • Implementation
  • Method A
  • Method B
  • Preparation of the substrate:

Uplift old coverings if present and apply a minimum 3 mm application of levelling compound. Allow for one earth connection to every 40 m2.

  • Implementation:
The method chosen is determined by the size of the area to be installed and as per Tarkett’s laid down instructions.

Method A: Network of foil strips + conductive adhesive

    - The strips are adhered with the same conductive adhesive as the covering.
    - Install strips at 10 - 15 cm out from the perimeter edges.
    - Adhere the strips inside this frame and parallel to the shortest dimension (maximum spacing, 60 cm). Each strip is to be connected to the edge strip with adhesive or solder.
    - Allow one earth connection for every 40 m2.

    Applying the adhesive:
Spread the adhesive in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations (open time, evaporation time and coverage).

    Welding the covering:
48 hrs after installing the covering, the joints are to be hotwelded with matching weld rod.

Note: It is also necessary to hot weld any joints in any self - coving or set-in preformed coving installed.

Method B: Conductive priming + conductive foil every 40m²

    Conductive primer:
Apply the primer with a roller, allowing 100 - 150 g/m2 (some primer manufactures quote coverage in m2 only). Leave to dry for 12 hours.

    Fixing the copper strips:
Adhere a 1.5 - 2 m strip of foil to the substrate every 40 m2 leaving sufficient foil exposed at the perimeter for connecting to earth (use the same conductive adhesive as for installing the covering).
Connect the exposed end to an earth connection.

    Applying the adhesive:
Apply the conductive adhesive in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations (open time, evaporation time and coverage).

    Application of the covering:
48 hrs after installing the covering, the joints are to be hot-welded with matching weld rod.

Note: It is also necessary to hot weld any joints in any self-coving or set-in preformed coving installed.
